Chasing The Cow... and I do mean chasing it.

There is a lot going on in my secret campaign to revive this band.  Well, it's official now that it's no secret.  The face book page is up and doing very well.  We're seeing a handful of new fans every day and the classic tracks that were posted are definitely being listened to  I'm letting you know right now that those tracks are the tip of the iceberg.  As you can see, Joseph has just passed me a bunch of new re-masters which I will put up at a rate of one per week.  I don't want to feed you so much you'll choke, so we'll take it slow and give you something to look forward to.

This is How Many Times Can A Boy Say No and it features Havana Davidson on lead vocals.  During the show we did on MWR, I was saying that I'm a big fan of Havana.  I met her in Mendocino and I always thought she had a cool speaking voice.  You'll listen to this and agree she was the perfect choice for the vocals on this track.

Joseph told me that the song was supposed to be How Many Times Can A Girl Say No, but the vocals just didn't work out with either him or Jason singing it, so they called Havana and the rest is history.

Now something else you might be interested in...
Working on this blog and the fan page, I was introduced to Eric Bose who actually recorded with Runaway Cow and later Ed & Ralph, which I played some of during that September 2010 feature I did with Joseph on Music World Radio.  Eric was cool enough to pass on some unused promotional photos of Runaway Cow.  Check out this one of the band actually chasing a cow.  Doesn't it look like someone could put an eye out?  I'm just floored that this may very well be the only photo of the band's living breathing mascot.  When I commented about the danger of the situation, Bose said this: "the cow was alot quicker than one would think, but ya... we were young and stupid."

I keep mentioning the show on MWR.  As you might know, I like to feature interesting and talented artists on my show on www.musicworldradio.com.  I'd bugged Joseph forever about doing one and when he was working on funsheepfun he agreed to let me interview him and play all of his music during my set.  It took that promise a while to go anywhere, but one night at 12am, Joseph said, "I'm coming over in the morning to do that show.  Be ready."  Well, it might to have been that blunt... but it made me freak out enough to have no idea what we were going to do until he arrived.  Keep in mind that my feature shows are usually 2 hours long and that this is the very first time I interviewed anyone for MWR, in person.  Here's the podcast of that show.  Eblison's Sunday Special Feature w/Joseph Ayres of Runaway Cow.

Well, that's it for this week.  I hope you like the goodies I've given you (cow patties as Joseph likes to call them), and I hope you keep a close look at this blog and the face book page.  There's stuff going on all the time.

... see ya'

Everyone watch where you're going... there's a Runaway Cow on the loose

It seems the “Cow” is making a big splash lately.  Everyone's talking and listening to the tunes and the new facebook page is busy busy.  Not bad for a band that started over 20 years ago and disbanded before the 90's were over.  Here we are in 2011 and the fans of Runaway Cow are making some noise.  I'm an internet DJ for musicworldradio.com and I've had Joseph on my show.  The spirit of the cow is still out there and I see no reason why this band has to be quiet.

When I began listening to Runaway Cow, they'd already been apart about a year or so.  I really dug what I heard on the two albums Long Live The Dork Revolution and Getting Lost On The Way Out of The Womb, and I wanted to hear more.  The Psycho Monkey On Planet Earth soundtrack and Upsongs were my next taste and all I could think was that I'd been stuck like an ostrich with my head in a hole until I made this awesome musical discovery.  I forced the music on all of my friends.  Most even liked it.  And every once in a while, Joseph would introduce me to someone and say something like, “she's a Cow fan from way back.”  I always felt like I'd found a kindred spirit.

That was before the end of the 1990's though, and indie music over the internet wasn't like it is now.  It wasn't as available to fans and it wasn't as easy for the bands to put out there.  Thankfully times have changed and here in 2011, we can share music in a heartbeat.  We can blog about it, tweet about it, even skype about it face to face with fans hundreds of miles away.  So now, I'm finally getting to do what I've always wanted to do, and that is to share this timeless band with people all over the world.

If you're new to the music and you dig it, friend us on facebook... follow this blog... download the music and do me a favor.  When you hear these songs, let us know what you think.  Give me one sentence that explains what you like about the band or the music.  You can post it here in the comments or on facebook, but please do.  Someone's gotta keep the cow running.

Classic Runaway Cow Remixes

Proof that a band that was ahead of it's time when they were together, is still very much in the present...  Joseph Ayres who is currently working on his first cd with the band funsheepfun, has released the first four of many classic Runaway Cow tracks, newly remastered... newly remixed... and free for download. Runaway Cow has been broken up well over a decade, but there's so much going on that keeps them with us.  Besides the classic tracks, there's a Runaway Cow fan page on face book in the works and some of these classics being played on internet radio station Music World Radio.  Keep your eyes here for more music and more news from Runaway Cow and be one step ahead of the rest.
